12,858 Blue Star Line from John Brown, Clydebank
Avelona Star 1929 Blue Star Line
Torpedoed by U 43 in the Atlantic 1940
The Avelona Star was one of five ships ordered by Blue Star Line, named Almeda, Avila, Andalucia, Arandora, and Avelona
Avelona was rebuilt as a cargo vessel with the removal of upper decks and second funnel. This was due to the Depression and the drop off in passenger traffic.
